Namesakes Join The Racers.
The Racers' second new rider for the upcoming campaign is 2018 SDL winner Jamie Couzins, who raced to the title with the Kent Kings last year.
At 23 years old he comes from near Faversham and has National League experience with Lakeside and Kent. Only last season Jamie made the most of a temporary stint with the Kings, averaging well over 3 points a match including bonuses, with some saying he should have kept his pace.
As with many riders Jamie is looking to utilise the Development League to put himself in the shop window and get the attention of the NL promoters and team mangers. The Reading management see their latest recruit as a big hitter in the newly formed Midland & Southern division, while they hope can help to propel himself back up the Speedway ladder.
The Racers are also thrilled to welcome back one of last year's squad members, Jamie Bursill, for a second successive year in the Development League, having started riding Speedway only 3 year ago.
Jamie joined the Racers at the beginning of 2018, after making guest appearances for various teams in 2017, and proved to be a passionate and committed member of the team.
The 19 year old made great strides during last season but is a rider who is never happy with his own performance and always commands more of himself, His faith in his own ability has been justified with a place with National League side Plymouth Gladiators for 2019.
It is hoped that being part of the Reading team will perfectly compliment his bid to establish himself in the higher division and the Racers management are looking forward to playing their part in another British rider finding his way up the ladder.
The two Jamie's join Rhys Laker and Sam Norris in the Racers squad, with 2 more still to be named.
